Pretty In Pink

Gifted in March 2006.

“A woman in pink, exuding all the connotations of girls being made of “sugar and spice and everything nice” is a cliché that stubbornly lingers in the culture (commentary following Hillary Clinton’s pink interview suit). Vice President Cheney sat in the warm glow of his ceremonial office in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building Wednesday afternoon and, in an interview with Fox News, accepted responsibility for the hunting accident in which he blasted Texas lawyer Harry Whittington with birdshot. Cheney was dressed in a dark suit with a small American flag pinned to his lapel. But instead of the red tie that is part of his standard business uniform, he was wearing a pink one. For Clinton, a pink suit worked like a shield. For Cheney, a pink tie was a weapon.”

This fun-loving quilt was made for a friend’s birthday. After the long gray winter and completing the charm quilt in warm, rustic colors, my soul simply SCREAMED for happy, cheery pink. (Then there was also the fact that my friend’s son and daughter-in-law were expecting the family's third grandchild, a girl).

Pinks have always been my all-time favorite colors: shirts, sweaters, and such comfort me. Pink Depression glass, pens with pink ink, hot pink post-it notes . . . shocking vibrant pinks, softer muted rosy pinks, and every shade in between . . . I love them all.

Pink is . . .
singing Gerbera daisies in terra cotta pots . . .
sugary cotton candy melting in my mouth . . .
a perfect, freshly-picked rose, glistening with dew.

This cheerful pink quilt has been used by that third grandchild and also by the first, second, fourth and fifth! When not covering napping grandchildren or serving for picnics in the den, it graces the bed in the guestroom. I LOVE the color palette and am humbled and very grateful that Julie made something so wonderful just for me!
